LIRA CITY. Head teachers, and directors of some of the schools that performed well in the A-Level examinations responded to questions about the recently released Senior Six results and their plans to further improve the standard of A-Level education in the Lango sub-region.
The 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results were released on Friday at State House Nakasero by the Uganda National Examinations Board. According to the board, 98.9 percent of candidates qualified for the UACE certificate, while 113,290 candidates (68.6 percent) attained two principal passes, the minimum requirement for admission to university degree programmes in Uganda.
The head teacher of St. Gracious Secondary School, Ojok Martin, said the results are encouraging to parents because they show that the quality of A-Level education in Lango continues to improve.
He noted that although the school leadership is satisfied with the results achieved, they believe even better performance is still possible.
Ojok added that teachers are committed to working hard to support learners.
He said the school has adequate science laboratory equipment, which has helped it become one of the leading institutions offering strong science education in Lango, and that because of this progress, parents no longer need to send their children to distant schools such as those in Kampala.
The Director of Wisdom High School Akalo, Ambrose Ogwal Anai, said the school has sufficient learning facilities for both O-Level and A-Level students, and added that the school has a strategic plan to further improve academic performance over the next five years.
Ogwal also revealed that the school has plans to construct a stadium to support sports development and provide students with better co-curricular opportunities.
Eddy Morris Ogweng, chairman board of directors of Legacy College- Apac, said the strategies the school put in place to strengthen teaching contributed to the improved results recorded in the latest examinations. He expressed confidence that the school will continue helping students achieve higher academic success.
Another Legacy College administrator, Jaspher Okodi, said strong teaching staff, learning resources and support from parents are helping the school grow into one of the leading institutions providing high-quality education in Lango and across Uganda.
The head teacher of Mentor Secondary School – Akwoyo Campus, Okware John Augustus, said the school focuses on providing students with all the necessary learning resources, which has helped them perform well not only in examinations but also in co –curricular activities.
Overall, St. Gracious Secondary School, Lira, and Wisdom High School Akalo ranked among the top schools in Uganda in the Senior Six examination results.
The ranking of Daily Mornitor News Paper indicates that, overall, St. Gracious Secondary School, Lira City, and Wisdom High School Akalo, Kole district ranked among the top schools in Uganda in the Senior Six examination results.
According to rankings based on the number of candidates obtaining grade A – 0 of the subjects sat, out of 922 schools nationwide, St. Gracious ranked 11th, while Wisdom High School Akalo ranked 12th.
In the 2025 Senior Six results, St. Gracious recorded 212 A grades, 330 Bs and 313 Cs out of 489 candidates.
Wisdom High School Akalo registered 196 As, 297 Bs and 334 Cs out of 441 candidates who sat the examinations.
Among government schools in Lango, Acaba Secondary School ranked first in the sub-region and 387th nationally. Out of 141 candidates, the school recorded 13 As, 20 Bs and 36 Cs.
The second-best government school in Lango was Dr. Obote College Boroboro, ranked 484th nationally, with 9 As, 46 Bs and 66 Cs out of 135 candidates.
St. Gracious also ranked 8th nationally based on the number of students scoring 20 points. The school registered 25 students with 20 points, 18 with 19 points and 22 with 18 points, out of a total of 489 candidates.
