LIRA CITY. Stella Ejang, a teacher at St. Katherine Secondary School in Boroboro, Lira City, emerged among the top winners in this year’s national “Teachers Making a Difference” awards.
Ejang ranked 12th out of 488 nominees from across the country, in recognition of her outstanding efforts in promoting debate and nurturing student talent.

Since joining St. Katherine Secondary School in 2018 after her transfer from Kampala, Ejang has led learners to sub regional, regional and national debate competitions, winning over 20 trophies.
She credits the success to structured training and the use of solution-based debate methods similar to those used in parliament.
Speaking after receiving the award, Ejang encouraged students across Lango to join clubs where their talents lie and to remain committed to academic excellence.
She also urged fellow teachers to dedicate time to developing learners’ talents, and called on school administrators to support co-curricular activities, especially through funding.
The headmistress of St. Katherine, Magaret Akello, said they offer holistic education because they believe in the fact that every child has a gift from God, and so they ensure that each and every child joins at least a club or two.

Akello observed that participating in several co-curricular activities has made them to win a number trophies while at the same time improved the level of comprehension of the students due to exposer, thereby improving on their academic performance.
She expressed gratitude on Ejang for are commitment and innovation that has led to the development of debating talent in St. Katherine girls.
For Ejang’s achievement, the school received a projector and a computer, while Ejang personally received two million shillings and a certificate of excellence.
The awards ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, at State House on Wednesday.
She praised teachers as key pillars in shaping Uganda’s future and reaffirmed government commitment to strengthening the education sector.
The “Teachers Making a Difference” initiative, organized by New Vision Printing and Publishing Company Limited, recognizes teachers who go beyond their professional duties to serve their communities.
Ejang’s success is a proud moment for Lango, highlighting the region’s growing impact in education and talent development.
