Speaking upon his arrival at the Bishop’s residence, Uganda Martyrs Cathedral, Lira, on March 28th, Bishop Wanok described his encounter with the Pope as deeply spiritual and impactful, revealing that the Pontiff’s main concern was whether people are truly coming to know Christ.

He said the Pope challenged bishops to strengthen faith among believers, warning that modern society is increasingly driven by materialism, bad politics, and moral decline.

Bishop Wanok noted that despite global challenges, the Pope commended Uganda for its strong Christian foundation, rooted in the faith of the Uganda Martyrs, and urged church leaders to help Christians remain steadfast.

He also highlighted that during the Vatican meetings, bishops presented reports on key sectors including education, health, and charity work, while also discussing governance and the role of the Church in guiding political leadership.

The Bishop further revealed that he dedicated time in prayer at major holy sites in Rome, including the tombs of Saints Peter and Paul, praying for the people of Lira Diocese and Uganda.

Welcoming him back, the Vicar General of Lira Diocese, Reverend Father Valente Innocent Opio, assured the Bishop that the diocese remained stable in his absence and commended him for representing the region at the international gathering.

Bishop Wanok thanked Christians for their prayers and support, pledging continued commitment to strengthening faith and unity in the diocese.
