Addressing the press after the devotion, the Bishop of Lira Diocese, Sanctus Lino Wanok, described the Way of the Cross as the climax of the Lenten journey and part of the Easter preparations. He emphasized Christ’s total sacrifice and urged Christians to embrace love, reject sin, and remain steadfast as the “light of the world” even in difficult times.

Bishop Wanok also called for repentance, reconciliation, and respect for others, encouraging believers to prepare spiritually for Easter through silence, reflection, and confession. He further prayed for unity among Ugandans and integrity among leaders at all levels.

Meanwhile, in the Lango Diocese, the Bishop, Alfred Olwa, said Good Friday commemorates the suffering of Jesus Christ because of human sin.

Speaking to Christians at Lira City Mayor’s Garden after the procession, Professor Olwa cited the crucifixion of Jesus as a reminder for people to turn away from sin and reflect deeply on their lives. He noted that although people tend to categorize sins differently, all sins are equal before God.

He stressed that the death of Jesus brought transformation and new life to humanity, making Good Friday a significant moment for Christians to renew their faith and commitment.

Professor Olwa also acknowledged the many life challenges people face today and encouraged believers to turn to Jesus Christ for healing, guidance, and strength.

In Dokolo District, religious leaders echoed similar messages, urging Christians to live according to the teachings of Christ.

The Parish Priest of Dokolo Parish, Augustine Odongo, encouraged believers to carry their crosses, promote unity, and love others unconditionally, even in the face of adversity.

On his part, the Vicar of Dokolo Urban Archdeaconry, Julius Otuke, emphasized the importance of prayer in overcoming sin. He pointed to Jesus Christ’s example of remaining prayerful during suffering as a source of strength for Christians.

Some participants who took part in the Way of the Cross expressed joy and said the experience had renewed their faith and strengthened their relationship with Christ.
