LIRA CITY – 16th May 2026. Parents have been encouraged to expose children to technology skills early to help them build confidence and shape their future careers.
Abel Ogwang, Director of Kuba Makers Space, said technology can be taught to children and parents should provide a conducive learning environment regardless of children’s background.
Speaking at the pass-out ceremony of children who completed a three-week training in various technology application skills during the holiday programme (Kuba Tech Camp), Abel Ogwang said early exposure to technology helps children make career decisions at an early age and begin working towards their goals.

Children below 15 years showcased innovations including video games, home security and irrigation technologies. One group developed a robotic car capable of detecting obstacles and notifies the driver or refuse to move if an obstacle is in front.
Another group led by Amule Lydia developed the Lango Tourism Guide app to address missing local roads on Google Maps, poor internet connectivity and tourist misdirection through offline detailed maps for sustainable tourism.
Ongia Emmanuel, a software engineer who trained the children during the camp, said learners were able to develop applications that can benefit the public, including a tourism guide app and a website aimed at improving access to goods and services at Lira Main Market.
Apart from holding Tech camp every holiday, the hub which is located at Lira Job Centre, in Ireda Housing estate, Lira city, also provides skills training on digital marketing, sign language interpretation, videography and audio production, app and web development among others.
