Fountainhead Institute Expands Skills Training With 20 Scholarships Per District

LIRA CITY – 8th June 2026. Fountainhead Institute of Management Technology has intensified efforts to promote vocational skills training while offering scholarship opportunities to 20 students per selected district.

The institute announced scholarships and bursaries for selected students from districts in the Lango sub-region and West Nile sub-region as part of its July intake admissions.

Speaking during a media engagement,on 8th/ June/2026, at Fountainhead Institute, Judith Abonyo, the Head of Department for Renewable Energy at the institute, said the programme is being supported through cooperation with the German government under the GIZ programme. She explained that the initiative is already supporting solar technician training and is now expanding to other programmes.

According to Abonyo, successful applicants pursuing technical courses will receive full sponsorship and monthly stipends to support their welfare and daily needs while studying, while other students will receive bursaries.

“We are calling upon all applicants not to miss this opportunity. Successful candidates will benefit from full scholarships and stipends to support their daily needs while at campus,” Abonyo said.

The selected districts include:

  • Kole District
  • Kwania District
  • Lira District
  • Dokolo District
  • Amolatar District
  • Alebtong District
  • Nebbi District
  • Oyam District

Courses under the programme include National Diplomas in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, and Crop Production, alongside certificate programmes in business administration, accounting, and public administration.

Abonyo encouraged parents and guardians to support their children to join vocational training programmes, saying the initiative equips learners with practical skills that can help them become self-employed.

She added that application forms are available at a fee of 52,000 shillings at the institute located in Amuca, Lira City West Division.

Meanwhile, in a related address, the institute’s Director, Tom Okao, highlighted the importance of embracing vocational education, arguing that early skills training produces more practical and job-ready graduates compared to purely academic pathways.

“We need more practical engineers and technicians who can produce solutions locally, rather than only theoretical knowledge without application,” Okao observed.

He noted that Uganda’s focus on science and technical education should prioritize hands-on training to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real industrial needs.
